Isaiah 7.10-14,8.10 | Hebrews 10.4-10 | Luke 1.26-38

In nine months it will be the Solemnity of Christmas, the birth of Jesus, the only Son of God. To celebrate this date, we have the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord on March 25th, which is the first joyful mystery of the Holy Rosary.

Today the evangelist Luke tells us about the annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to the virgin Mary. The messenger makes several important revelations to Joseph's betrothed: about His exalted dignity in the eyes of the Lord; about God the Father's plan for God the Son to become Man through the action of God the Holy Spirit in order to save men from their sins; about the eternal reign of God the Son - whose name would be Jesus - in fulfillment of the promises made to the ancestors of the Jews.

At first, the virgin Mary was greatly troubled and afraid. But, after the revelations of the Archangel Gabriel, Joseph's betrothed accepted the divine plan, as the Handmaid of the Lord.

What joy! Thanks to Mary's MADE IT BE DONE and the action of God the Holy Spirit, God the Son Jesus was conceived and is already growing in the virginal womb of Joseph's betrothed! Now we just have to wait for the time of gestation and celebrate His birth! How wonderful it is for us!

Today the prophet Isaiah speaks to King Ahaz about the famous divine promise that a virgin would conceive and bear a son named Emmanuel.

Some biblical scholars say that this virgin would be a small group of Israel who would remain faithful to the Lord, through whom He would supernaturally begin a new generation, dwelling among them.

For us Christians, this virgin is Mary, the betrothed of Joseph, the Mother of God the Son Jesus, the true "God is with us", the Mother of the Church, the new People of God, who are faithful to Him!

Today the author of the letter to the Hebrews tells us that, in the mystery of God the Son who became Man, God the Father prepared a body for Him, so that He could be offered as a sacrifice for the consecration of men.

When He came into the world, Christ told the Father that He had come to do His Will. May we imitate the obedience of Jesus, Who is growing in virgin Mary's womb, whose birth we will celebrate with joy in December 25th.

Let's pray with the Archangel Gabriel's words: "Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee"!

In this Holy Week, today we arrive at the Easter Triduum, with Holy Thursday, celebrating the Institution of the Eucharist, at the Last Supper, and remembering the Washing of the Feet, love made humble service. A short while ago, the Institution of the Ministerial Priesthood was celebrated, with Priest's Day, and the consecration of the Holy Oils for the anointing of catechumens, for the anointing of those being confirmed and ordained ministers (deacons, priests and bishops), and for the anointing of the sick. Today the Evangelist John speaks to us about the Washing of the Feet during the Supper. Jesus - the Lord and Master - washed the feet of His disciples, giving them the example so that they would do the same thing that He did. The evangelist emphasizes that Jesus was demonstrating all His love for His people in the world. We begin the thirty-second week of Ordinary Time with Mother Church. In two Sundays, the Liturgical Year will conclude with the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe. In 2025, the feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, on November 9th, coincided with Sunday, the Lord's Day. The Basilica of St. John Lateran is the Cathedral of the Diocese of Rome, presided over by Pope Leo XIV. It is the oldest church in the West, inaugurated in the year 324, during the pontificate of Pope St. Sylvester I. It is the most important of the four papal basilicas in Rome (the others are St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, and the Basilica of St. Mary Major). Five ecumenical councils have taken place there. She is considered the ecumenical Mother Church.
