Isaiah 11:1-10 / Luke 10:21-24

Jesus balanced action and prayer. He had profound moments of intimacy with God, praying through the Holy Spirit. Today's Gospel shows us exactly this.

The evangelist Luke shows us the content of Jesus' prayer. He praises God the Father for having handed over everything to God the Son. Jesus praises God's way of acting, who reveals Himself to the childlike, and not to the wise and the learned. In reality, God reveals Himself to everyone, but the childlike find God in the little things, while the wise and the learned wait for great revelations and lose the opportunity to welcome God's presence.

The childlike found God in the humble life of Jesus. But the wise and the learned lost the opportunity to welcome God's presence in Jesus.

Prophets and kings of the past greatly desired to see and hear the promised Messiah. But they did not have this opportunity. Jesus told His disciples that they were blessed to be able to see and hear Him.

Through His person and His words, Jesus - the only one who knows God the Father because He came from Him - reveals God to His disciples and makes the Father known to them.

In this season of Advent, we are invited to strengthen our intimacy with God through prayer in the Holy Spirit. We are invited to find God in the little things and in the humble life of Jesus, in His person and in His words. We are blessed to have this opportunity!

The beautiful reading of the prophecy of Isaiah reveals the hope of the Jews for the messianic times. It would be a time of peace, of overcoming all violence. The Messiah, a descendant of King David, would be filled with the Spirit of the Lord, and would act as a just judge for the poor and for the land's afflicted, slaying the wicked. The Messiah would be a great signal, sought by nations and the gentiles, with a glorious dwelling.

In this season of Advent, let us place our trust in Christ who will return at the end of time to satisfy our hunger and thirst for justice, the justice that we cannot find in this world. Let us seek Christ with all confidence.
